For veterans of the genre

A browser space strategy game with no pay-to-win — what ChaosTheory does differently

If you have spent years in a browser space game with planets, mines, research and fleets — the OGame generation — you already know four fifths of ChaosTheory. This page is about the last fifth, and about what you will not find here.

What you know

Planets and buildings

You upgrade mines, power plants, storage, lab and shipyard in levels — 62 buildings, build times from minutes to days.

Research in branches

140 technologies across five branches and five eras. Without drives you never arrive in time.

Fleets and reports

41 ship types, attacks, espionage, recall, battle reports with losses on both sides.

Alliances and rankings

Alliances with chat, wars between alliances, rankings by points and by performance.

Time as a resource

Everything keeps running while you are away. The player who plans beats the one who clicks.

In the browser, free

No download, no client. An account needs an email, a password and a name — no payment details.

What is different: five universes, five sets of physics

There are five universes, and each runs the same formulas with different numbers. What is strong in Homespace is worthless in Emberspace. The fleet that wins at home is the wrong fleet three jumps out — and the player who understands that beats the one who only builds.

SpeedYieldEnergyBuild timeHullShield
Homespace100 %100 %100 %100 %100 %100 %
Denspace−45 %+60 %−10 %−15 %+10 %−10 %
Voidspace+90 %−45 %100 %+15 %−10 %100 %
Emberspace+10 %−15 %+80 %100 %−30 %+50 %
Coldspace−30 %+10 %−20 %−40 %+15 %−5 %

Green is good for you. For build time, that is the lower number.

Rifts instead of a flat map

The universes form a ring. Between them are rifts — rare, fixed in place, and they move. A rift stays open only while tinder flows through it, and a large fleet needs several waves. Everyone can see them coming.

Reports are evidence

Every battle can be recalculated from its seed, today or in a year. A battle report is not a text the server asserts — it is a calculation anyone can check.

Everyone starts now

The alpha is closed and young. Nobody has a three-year head start, and every balance change goes into the development log — with the reasoning.

Six resources with names

Ferrite, Silex, Iridyne, Caesite, Stibium and Halite. Energy is a balance, not a stockpile — every building shows its consumption.

Protection that does not patronise

Fresh accounts are protected, and a points limit keeps the top away from the small without leaving the top with no targets. On top of that, everyone chooses an eight-hour rest window in which nobody attacks their worlds — the four-in-the-morning raid gains nothing.

What you will not find here

No pay-to-win

The shop sells cosmetics, a founder pack and queue slots — things that replace presence, not strength. No resources, no ships, not an hour.

No tracking, no ads

No third-party cookies, no tracking pixel, no advertising. We ask where you came from — we do not measure it.

What is not there yet

The game is in closed alpha. We invite every day in small batches, and the balance changes — every change goes into the development log with its reasoning. The illustrations are AI-generated and labelled as such; the game mechanics are not. There is no Steam listing and no app yet, only the browser.
